The Devil is in the Details

4hrs Hands on Domestic Sewing machine

Suitable for: Int/Adv

Sometimes the difference between a show quilt and an AWARD WINNING show quilt is in the details. On the judging floor, sometimes one point is all that separates a contestant from a winner. Students will focus on skills mastery of beaded bias applique, beaded piping, swag piping, beaded knife edge binding, facing edges, and turning corners with beaded materials as well as an introduction to the use of Derwent Inktense pencils. Rather than a complete a finished project, students will make 4” mini samples and finish one edge with cardstock, then assemble their samples on a keyring of details mastery! Sampler Quilt Smackdown!

2hrs Hands on Drawing

Suitable: All

Sampler quilts, with their different blocks can sometimes be the hardest of all to quilt, leading to “stand and stare” syndrome. Bethanne will share her popular mid-custom technique of eliminating back tracking in quilting and the majority of stitch in the ditch while combining piecing elements to create dramatic secondary designs to unify samplers (or any block quilt). Don’t sacrifice the “WOW” factor of custom…but DO give up full custom’s time commitment! Students will enjoy putting together puzzle units of quilting to create their own dramatic designs, bring a camera to capture each one! sampler quilt smack down
